A Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300, registration B-KPX performing flight CX-234 from Milan Malpensa (Italy) to Hong Kong (China), was enroute at FL330 over the Black Sea about 410nm eastnortheast of Istanbul (Turkey) and about 100nm northwest of Trabzon (Turkey) when the crew needed to shut an engine (GE90) down due to the loss of engine oil. The aircraft drifted down to FL200, turned around and diverted to Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport for a safe landing on runway 17L about 90 minutes after leaving FL330.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 22 hours after landing.
The airline’s website states the flight should have departed Istanbul at 05:40Z on Mar 2nd, about 14 hours after landing, but has not yet departed at 14:00Z (and no replacement aircraft has yet arrived in Istanbul).
