WestJet flights to/from Fort McMurray could be affected by volcano eruption in Alaska

WestJet flights to/from Fort McMurray could be affected by volcano eruption in Alaska

March 30, 2016 By Sebastien

WestJet is warning that flights in and out of Fort McMurray, Alta., may be delayed or cancelled because of ash from Alaska’s Pavlof volcano.
Westjet said the the ash forced several cancellations last night of flights originating in Regina but the “latest meteorological data suggests there is now limited risk,” and its been a smooth day for travellers.
No flights from Fort McMurray have been delayed or cancelled.
That said, WestJet said the situation is still fluid and strongly suggests that passengers check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. More information is available here.
Mount Pavlof, located on the Alaska Peninsula, started erupting on Sunday afternoon with little warning, spewing ash 6,000 metres into the sky.
Flights have been affected across the North and the Prairies.
In a tweet, WestJet says it is monitoring the situation.
