An Air Transat Boeing 737-800, registration C-GTQX performing flight TS-783 from Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was climbing out of Puerto Plata when the electrical trim system controlling the horizontal stabilizers failed and the autopilot disconnected. The crew declared emergency and diverted to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) for a safe landing.
The Canadian TSB reported the electrical trim system of the trimmable horizontal stabilizer failed rendering the autopilot inoperative, the manual trim however continued to work.
