Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) confirmed Monday that the Taiwanese carrier TransAsia Airways will suspend operations from Tuesday.
The CAA confirmation followed an “urgent notice” on the airline’s Japanese-language website, which said all of its flights between Taiwan and Japan on Nov. 22 had been canceled and passengers with bookings for that day will be given a full refund.
The airline did not give any reason for the cancellations.
The notice was published only on TransAsia’s Japanese-language website and did not appear in any other language or on any of its other sites.
TransAsia’s staff, meanwhile, appeared uncertain about what was happening.
Some ground staff in Tokyo and at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport said all they knew was that they would not have to work Tuesday.
“Ground operations are normal today but will be uncertain tomorrow,” said one staff member at the airport.
According to an inside source, some of the airline’s executives stationed overseas returned to Taiwan on Sunday.
A flight attendant in Taoyuan said that her hours had been cut recently from 80 hours per month to 50 hours, which she described as quite unusual.
A TransAsia Airways spokesperson in Taipei said the company will issue a statement.
