7I-534 has inflight engine shut down

November 30, 2015 By bernard.montrel@gmail.com

An Insel Air International McDonnel Douglas MD-82, registration PJ-MDC performing flight 7I-534 from Sint Maarten (Sint Maarten) to Curacao (Curacao), was climbing out of Sint Maarten when the crew needed to shut an engine (JT8D) down due to the loss of oil pressure. The aircraft stopped the climb at FL070 and returned to Sint Maarten for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure.
The engine needed to be replaced. The airline, that operates 3 MD-82, two MD-83 and 3 Fokker 50s, had to deal with another MD-83 and a Fokker 50 on the ground within a week causing serious disruptions to their flight schedule.
