An Iran Air Airbus A300-600, registration EP-IBD performing flight IR-712 from Vienna (Austria) to Tehran Imam Khomeini (Iran), was enroute at FL300 about 100nm northeast of Istanbul (Turkey) when the crew decided to divert to Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport due to the failure of the APU. The aircraft landed safely on runway 05 about 25 minutes later.
The aircraft, on its scheduled flight from Stockholm (Sweden) to Tehran performed its planned fuel stop in Prague (Czech Republic), but then needed to divert to Vienna, see Incident: Iran Air A300B4-605R has generator failure. The aircraft was able to continue the flight with the #2 IDG inoperative requiring electrical power being supplied by #1 IDG and APU.
A replacement Airbus A300-B4 was dispatched to Istanbul, continued the flight and reached Tehran with a delay of 18 hours.
The occurrence aircraft was able to position to Tehran as flight IR-3494 departing Istanbul about 16 hours after landing.
