A plane passenger got quite a surprise when she received a decidedly phallic-shaped meal on a Qantas flight from Sydney to Brisbane.
Perhaps this is what you get when you upgrade to business class, as this woman did.
The passenger, who did not want to be named, told news.com.au: “I asked the server what it was … and he told me that it was a root vegetable.
“I asked him to pass me my phone so I could take a photo… I never take photos of food but this was too funny to pass up.
“He blushed and was very apologetic, I don’t think he had ever seen anything quite like it … the lady next to me was cracking up.”
The woman shared the image on Facebook, where she got a host of hilarious comments. One wrote: “Definitely a root vegetable they couldn’t serve on Virgin.”
Another joked: “Is that food, or in-flight entertainment?”, and another laughed: “A root vegetable is one way to describe it … I think you inadvertently just joined the mile-high club.”
Speaking to the Telegraph, Qantas took it all in their stride and said the meal was: “Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings with Chilli Black Vinegar and Soy Dressing.
“The dumplings are accompanied with steamed Japanese Eggplant, which is used commonly in Asian meals.
“Based on this picture, we may look at renaming it Dumpling Surprise.”
The woman insisted she was not unhappy with the airline, who she’ll be flying with again next week, and that the dumplings were “delicious” – although she did decide not to eat the vegetable-member thing, which, as one online user said, could “give you nightmares for years to come”.
