PUNTA GORDA -More problems for Allegiant Airlines as one of its planes was forced to make two emergency landings in St. Petersburg over the last two days.
It’s just the latest in a series of issues for Allegiant, which have led to a Federal Aviation Administration review.
At the Punta Gorda Airport, Allegiant Air is the only major airline that operates there. With the airline continuing to have problems, it’s causing many to have concerns.
“I do know of their issues, and it’s in the back of my mind,” said passenger Heider Gerver. “I’m hoping for an uneventful flight.”
Some passengers have even canceled their flights while others are hoping for the best.
Allegiant is currently under a 90-day review by the FAA to look at its maintenance and possible safety issues.
But some of their customers feel the smaller airline isn’t any worse than others.
“It’s always a concern, but I’ve flown on other airlines that have had issues too,” said passenger Diane McNary.
“Because they are a smaller airline, they get kind of picked on a little bit,” said customer Frank Shaw.
Punta Gorda Airport officials say they are also working with Allegiant to make sure all safety procedures are being followed.
In a statement, Allegiant says the two emergency landings were done as a precaution and no one was in any danger.
“It is what it is. As long as they repair it in a reasonable length of time,” McNary said.
