A LAN Chile Boeing 787-900, registration CC-BGI performing flight LA-533 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Santiago (Chile), was climbing out of JFK’s runway 04L when the crew requested to stop the climb at 10,000 feet reporting they had a problem with the slats. The aircraft entered a hold while the crew was working the checklists, then dumped fuel and returned to JFK for a safe landing on runway 04L about one hour after departure.
A replacement Boeing 787-900 registration CC-BGE departed JFK about 17 hours after landing and is estimated to reach Santiago with a delay of 18 hours.
