Jin Air (LJ, Seoul Gimpo) will make its Oceania debut later this winter with the launch of a seasonal Seoul Incheon-Cairns, Australia service.
The twice weekly service will operate on-board B777-200(ER) aircraft beginning December 14 and running through to February of next year. Thereafter, a decision will be taken on whether to extend the service into a year-round operation.
“We have seen record numbers of visitors to Tropical North Queensland in the last 12 months with close to 2 million international and Australian visitors coming to our region,” local politician for Barron River, Craig Crawford, said marking the announcement. “This new seasonal Jin Air flight will provide access for up to 5,000 extra visitors and a year-round service will grow to allow access for up to 41,000 visitors each year. Cairns is now only the second Queensland city with direct connections to South Korea, with Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) servicing Brisbane Int’l year-round.”
The LCC subsidiary of Korean Air, Jin Air offers regular budget flights to the Philippines, Thailand, China, Japan, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Macau, Guam, and the United States (Hawai’i) using seventeen B737-800s and three B777-200(ER)s.
