GOL Linhas Aéreas, the largest low-cost airline in the South America and the second largest Brazilian airline company by market share and fleet size, said one engine of one of its aircraft caught fire.
GOL aircraft was a Boeing 737-800, with registration PR-GXA.
According to GOL, the aircraft was preparing for take-off from Brasília International Airport (BSB) for its flight to São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) when the incident happened.
“No one was injured,” GOL airlines said.
GOL Linhas Aéreas says the aircraft was being pushed back from the airport gate, when its right turbine had a technical failure that caused the fire.
GOL said in a statement that there was a technical fault in the exhaust of the right engine, “damaging just outside the fuselage of the aircraft next to the engine.”
GOL Linhas Aéreas says the 145 passengers on their way to Sao Paulo were evacuated safely and put on other flights.
Brasília International Airport press officer Camila Stivelberg says the turbine of the aircraft caught fire around 15.20 and four fire trucks were sent to put out the fire
