March 21, 2016 By bernard.montrel@gmail.com

An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N536AS performing flight AS-807 from Bellingham,WA to Honolulu,HI (USA), was enroute at FL350 over the Pacific Ocean about 90 minutes prior to estimated landing when a passenger’s iPhone 6 emitted a large flame prompting the passenger to drop the phone in fright. On the floor the fire became even larger, the flight attendants reacted, cooled the iPhone down and extinguished the fire. The aircraft continued to Honolulu for a safe landing about 90 minutes later. There were no injuries, the iPhone is a fatality however.
The airline reported their flight attendants are trained for situations like these and quickly extinguished the fire. The airline as well as the FAA are investigating the cause of the fire.
The passenger reported she was watching a movie on her iPhone when suddenly an 8 inch long flame shot out of the iPhone, she dropped the phone, on the floor the fire even became larger before flight attendants extinguished the fire.
