An American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration N483A performing flight AA-1286 from Omaha,NE to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 117 people, was in the initial climb out of Omaha when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet reporting they had received a tail compartment overtemperature indication and returned to Omaha for a safe landing on runway 14R about 15 minutes after departure. Emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke.
A replacement MD-83 registration N565AA reached Dallas with a delay of 5 hours.
