American Airlines MD-82 has cabin filled with smoke odour

An American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration N7547A performing flight AA-2398 from Nashville,TN to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 141 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 20nm north of Memphis,TN (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Memphis due to a smell of smoke in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely in Memphis about 20 minutes later.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 80 minutes, then continued the journey and reached Dallas with a delay of 90 minutes.
