An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N39365 performing flight AA-2305 from Miami,FL to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA), was just about to level off at FL340 on autopilot about 100nm south of Orlando,FL (USA), when the crew received indications that the leading edge flaps had extended and the aircraft unexpectedly pitched nose down. The crew verified the flaps lever was still in the up position, however, the flap gauges showed the leading edge devices were in their 1 position. The crew therefore descended the aircraft to FL320, worked the related checklists, consulted with mintenance and subsequently decided to divert to Orlando, where the aircraft landed safely about one hour later.
A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N394AN reached Dallas with a delay of 6 hours.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 15 hours, then positioned back to Miami and resumed service performing the next day’s flight AA-2305.
