Two Air Transat pilots have been arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol just prior to take off on a trans-Atlantic flight from Glasgow to Toronto.
A spokesman said the airline learned of the arrests on Monday as the flight was scheduled to depart Glasgow airport in the afternoon.
“Air Transat has learned of the arrest on July 18 of two crew members assigned to its Glasgow-Toronto flight,” said Air Transat spokesman Pierre Tessier in a statement to Global News.
“We will await the results of the investigation and judicial proceedings before commenting on the matter before making any further comments.”
Police Scotland says the men, aged 37 and 39, are due to appear in court Tuesday, charged with being “impaired through alcohol.”
The airline says passengers have been put up in hotels and will be flown to Toronto on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Air Transat Flight A310 was carrying 345 passengers on board along with nine crew members.
It is believed the cabin crew raised concerns over the pilots behaviour before the plane’s scheduled take-off at 1 p.m. local time.
Some passengers took to social media to air their frustration over the inconvenience.
